Tipping Guide

Tanzania is a lower income country and tipping is very much an important part of the work and remuneration culture and in particular, the service industry and tourist economy; this is similar to restaurant servers in the US, for example.

Extreme Expedition Tours Limited pays higher than the average tour company to keep and retain the best staff, however, we also support local guides, porters and camp workers, many of which are self-employed who significantly benefit from a tip for the excellent service they provide.

Tipping is discretionary, but below are our suggestions for typical tipping amounts:

Safari driver-guide……………………...….......…$30 per family or group per day

Note: This tip should be paid on the last day, not day by day. If you have more than one guide, then tip on the last day for each guide.

Safari lodge, safari camp and hotel staff tip box.......$20 per tent/room per day

Note: This tip is shared between the camp, lodge or resort team so please do not hand the money to an individual, there should be a tipping box on reception.
