Visa Application Step-by-Step

Firstly, visit https://visa.immigration.go.tz/
Be careful - an internet search for tanzanian visas will bring up lots of agencies that may or may be a lot more expensive and less reliable - the safest option is the official site above and enter the correct data as follows.
Please note: there is a list of countries from where it is possible to obtain a visa on arrival.

Click on New Application
This will generate a new application with a unique reference number. To recover a partial application and to check on progress you must remember these details so make a note of them - especially the security questions.
Once you have completed all fields, confirm you're not a robot with a CAPTCHA test and click on Start New Apllication.

It is a good idea to take a screenshot to avoid typos or losing it on a piece of paper.
Enter Personal Information
It is important that it matches your passport. Press Save and Continue.
Enter Contact Information
Complete all fields. If you are unemployed or retired there is no need to enter Employer or Occupations. Press Save and Continue.
Enter Passport Information
Make sure you have at least 6 months on your passport before you LEAVE Tanzania. Press Save and Continue.
Enter Travel Information
You are applying from your country of residence and the Purpose is Tourism.
Nearby Embassy is just the City nearest to you but they will not handle your application.
Type of Visa is Ordinary Visa except for US Citizens that must select Multiple Entry.
For Local Host Enter "Self". You can enter the operator dtails but "Self" is fine.
For Local Host enter your own details.
For Accommodation enter the details of the first lodge or camp you are staying.
Press Save and Continue.
Enter Travel Companions
If you are in a large organised group, someone should do thi for you.
If it is just your friends or family then enter "No".
If you have children with you, it will ask for names and ages.
Press Save and Continue.
Upload Documents (Photos)
Upload a passport style photo: white background, no glasses or hats, front facing etc.
Take a photo of your Bio Page and upload that.
Be careful of file types and file sizes - look out for warnings. The vfile suffix must be jpeg NOT jpg and the file size less than 300KB.
For the photo or screenshot of your return ticket or onward flight, make sure the file type is PDF.
Press Save and Continue.
Declaration
This is where you double check your information, edit if needed.
Read and Confirm the Terms and Conditions.
Press Save and Continue.
Make Payment
You can download a copy of in the invoice using the Export button.
Please use a credit or debit card - the transfer method is complicated.
Press Proceed with Visa or Mastercard.
Click Pay Now
You will see this notice. Simply press on Proceed.
WELL DONE!
It can take up to a week or two for your visa to be approved and emailed to you.
If you do not receive an email in a week, check your spam or junk folders and go back into the system with your credentials and enter Visa Status.
